Welcome to WIFIE
Wifie is an independent photography group for women living in and around Edinburgh. Members of Wifie meet to participate in workshops and visit exhibitions. During these informal meetings the group are able to discuss ideas or explore the issues raised by the work of other artists as well as being able to share knowledge, ideas and experiences within the group.
Wifie provides women with an opportunity to;
Learn new skills in photography or extend existing skills
Meet up for workshops or to visit exhibitions
Participate in exhibitions and photography projects.
Use photography to explore issues relating to gender, power and social politics
To network with other women's projects across Scotland

Wifie (Women In Focus In Edinburgh) is a collective for women who are interested in photography and would like to share their passion and ideas with other women. We would normally meet about once a month where we would take part in a workshop or visit an exhibition. Members would then be invited to create some of their own work in response to these events.
UPDATE
WIFIE are delighted to be involved in the Thrive Arts programme this October. We will be creating a photographic installation in the Porty Lightbox as part of Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival.
Current Project
Assignment 25. B&W photography
Our new assignment is to create images in Black & White whilst paying particular attention to contrast. B&W photography allows us the opportunity to concentrate on elements of photography such as the quality and direction of light and how this impacts on the contrast, texture, form and exposure without also having to think about the colour balance within our photos.
All members are welcome to explore this assignment and submit their photos for our website.

Cecilia's B&W images are stunning and really capture the form and texture within nature as well as these buildings. I love the way she has included people in many of the images which helps provide scale and human interest, a story. The use of ICM in some of the photographs helps create an amazing atmosphere.
Margaret Munro's selection of images are very bold and also very graphic, subjects that work really well in B&W.
Margaret Thomson has explored exposure and low key photography in her selection of a couple of still life images as well as outdoor and in nature.
Molly has done a selection of images of landscapes and trees. These subjects work really well in B&W.
Laima's photographs illustrate how black & white images work so well when photographing buildings and streets in a city. The castle in particular is stunning in this moody and atmospheric shot.
Olga's set of images are very bold and work really well in B&W. The simplicity of the shapes and the low key exposures help to emphasise the structures and shapes.

We have recently decided to put a hold on this section until further notice. Previous posts are still available to see. In The Spotlight
Lockdown Assignments
While we were unable to meet up for workshops or to visit exhibitions Wifie members have continued to build their camera skills by taking part on our regular assignments and using WhatsApp to share their photos. These assignments have included a variety of different topics from composition and negative space to the weather and shadows.
