Themis: Blind Justice
Exhibition 2011
Exhibition 2011
In preparation for this exhibition WIFIE members held workshops and discussion groups to explore the idea of justice, powerful women throughout history and mythology as well as the effects of violence on victims and throughout wider society. We chose this title because Themis is the goddess of divine law and represents both a strong female figure and justice.
The exhibition coincided with the 16 Days Campaign against gender violence which begins with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and ends on Human Rights Day. The 16 Days Campaign calls for the elimination of all forms of gender violence by
- Raising awareness about gender violence
- Promoting the work of support organisations
- Linking local and international work to end violence against women
- Demonstrating solidarity of women around the world
- Creating tools to pressure governments to implement policies to eliminate violence against women
