Social Events & creative ideas.
As a constituted group Wifie holds an Annual General Meeting every year so that it can meet it's obligations, reflect on the year past and plan future events. More recently we have made these 'meetings' much more interesting by setting a photography assignment along with a picnic. Sometimes we will just arrange a picnic to catch up and do some photography together.
We also arrange visits to various places to provide inspiration or ideas to build photography skills and experience. This on occasion will tie in with an exhibition that has been planned but can often just be about going to new places.

AGM and picnic at Saughton Park 2021
This year we were lucky enough to have our AGM at Saughton Park, the first time we had been together since COVID lockdown. It was a lovely day and the theme for the day was to create images that explored the Beauty of Nature, Minimalism, Abstract and Structure. These themes were just perfect for the location and for those who couldn't make it on the day, there was plenty opportunity to get involved. Have a look at the images by clicking on the link (photo)

Picnic at Saughton, Winter Garden. May 2019.
At the end of May Wifie members gathered at Saughton Park for our annual picnic and workshop. The weather wasn't as good as we have had in previous years, in fact it was pretty awful! We didn't let this stop us, in fact we used this to create the theme for this year's challenge, 'Puddleography'. A new subject for all of us we went ahead and gave it our best shot. It proved harder than we imagined so the final theme for submission to our website was broadened out to include 'Water'.

AGM and picnic at Redhall Walled Garden. May 2019
For our annual AGM, Wifie members had the opportunity to spend time at Redhall Walled Garden. This amazing walled garden in Edinburgh offers not only a beautiful tranquil oasis in the heart of the city but a wealth of opportunity to get creative with a camera. This year's theme was 'Abstract Photography' so after an introduction on this diverse subject members got busy creating some amazing images.

Visit to Jupiter Artland 2018.
This is a truly wonderful place to visit, a place where contemporary art meets nature, plays and embraces the environment offering delight and contemplation as you wander around the grounds. During this visit Wiifie members were asked to consider which of the famous works we might approach using photographic practices and to then present our proposals to Jupiter Artland for consideration.
AGM and picnic. Dalkeith Country Park. In 2018 Wifie returned to Dalkeith Country Park for our annual AGM and picnic. This year we welcomed new members and made some plans for the year ahead. Our photography challenge was to produce three images on the theme, Animal, Mineral & Vegetable.
Annual picnic. Prestongrange Industrial Heritage Site.
In 2017 Wifie members chose this amazing location for their annual picnic. Both the location and weather provided an ideal day out where we were able to explore a variety of different spaces and be inspired by the way nature can interweave its way through anything that is build by people.

Visit to Gardening Scotland.
Wifie members organised a visit to Gardening Scotland with support from the Women's Fund for Scotland. The location offered a great opportunity for members to practice their camera skills and everyone was given a list of challenges to consider whilst visiting this event. The challenges included shallow depth of Field, Close up / macro photography and reportage. This workshop proved very popular and wifie members would recommend it for future visits.

Visit to Inchcolm Island
In 2015 wifie members visited Incholm Island which is situated on the Firth of Forth. The trip there and back on the Maid of the Forth offers great opportunities to capture some amazing images of the bridges and the surrounding countryside. Once on the island there's plenty walks to capture the scenery and wildlife as well as a visit to Inchcolm Abbey.

Annual Picnic. Dalkeith Country Park.. August 2014
At the end of August 2014 Wifie members had their annual picnic and photography session. This year we went on a lovely walk around the grounds of Dalkeith Country Park just outside Edinburgh where you can access woodland walks, an old stable yard and ancient Orangery.

Visit to Jupiter Artland
Wifie members had the opportunity to visit Jupiter Artland in 2014. This is a fantastic sculpture park on the edge of Edinburgh and is a 'must see' place to visit. As you walk through the beautiful grounds you come across some amazing pieces of art from world famous artists such as Charles Jencks, Anish Kapoor and Andy Goldsworthy. One of the most memorable pieces of sculpture that you come across as you make your way through the woods are the Weeping Girls by Laura Ford.

Visit to Samye Ling.
To support Wifie members whilst they were exploring the theme, Fashion, Culture and Spirituality we organised a visit to the Samye Ling Tibetan Buddhist Centre.
We had a good few hours to explore as well as time for lunch in the centre's dining hall. The temple, beautifully decorated in intricate red and gold decorations and small cushions, provided a challenge with the low lighting levels to get the best pictures. We also explored the grounds, taking pictures of the organic herb and vegetable gardens, the statues, temples, prayer wheels, flags and ribbons. Each aspect had a different significance in Buddhism, for example the prayer wheels are filled with millions of prayers then turned either by hand, by wind power or electricity.
It was a great chance to practice photographing a variety of different things in a mixture of lighting levels (and rain!) We tackled indoor photography, landscape scenes as well as close ups of some of the more intricate decorations and plants. Most people used digital photography but some also used 35mm black & white.
