Welcome to WIFIE

Wifie is an independent photography group for women living in and around Edinburgh. Members of Wifie meet to participate in workshops and visit exhibitions. During these informal meetings the group are able to discuss ideas or explore the issues raised by the work of other artists as well as being able to share knowledge, ideas and experiences within the group.

Wifie provides women with an opportunity to;

Learn new skills in photography or extend existing skills
Meet up for workshops or to visit exhibitions

Participate in exhibitions and photography projects.
Use photography to explore issues relating to gender, power and social  politics
To network with other women's projects across Scotland

Wifie (Women In Focus In Edinburgh) is a collective for women who are interested in photography and would like to share their passion and ideas with other women. We would normally meet about once a month where we would take part in a workshop or visit an exhibition. Members would then be invited to create some of their own work in response to these events.

Current Project

Our new assignment is to create images using the technique known as 'Intentional Camera Movement'. ICM is a very creative way to make images but it does have its challenges. Why not give it a try?

Phone Camera Workshop

Cecilia concentrated on exploring both colour and Black & White during this session at Edinburgh's Botanical Gardens and has created some fantastic images.
Here are some more lovely photos from the workshop, this time a selection of both panoramas and close up photography. You will see that the panoramic setting was used in 'portrait' format which is quite unusual but works very well in these photos.

In the Spotlight

Picture
This space is for members to share the photographs they have taken which reflect their interests and achievements in their chosen field of photography. It is also a chance for them to tell us a bit about their photographic journey. Wifie members have different interests and skills, which might not always suit the projects or assignments we are given so it's nice to celebrate the varied ideas and styles that each member brings to our group. This image was one that Olga shared and we will be sharing some new images soon by our next member who will be 'In the Spotlight'

Lockdown Assignments

While we were unable to meet up for workshops or to visit exhibitions Wifie members were able to continue building their camera skills by taking part on our regular assignments and using WhatsApp to share their photos. These assignments have included a variety of different topics from composition and negative space to the weather and shadows.
