A Sense Of Self
March 2010
Each of us has a repertoire of different identities which impacts on our 'sense of self‘. These include the physical self, our mental and emotional self, our social self and our spiritual self.
Our 'sense of self‘ is also constructed and influenced by the culture that we grow up in, providing us a with a sense of belonging and worth.
Members of WIFIE were presented with the chance to explore through photography this idea of 'self‘ and what we might mean by 'A Sense of Self‘.
The resulting work being exhibited demonstrates the different ap-proaches that each of the women have taken. Some have chosen to ex-press this through a combination of their own photographs, making a collage of their images. Other members have explored their sense of self through their relationships with others and the world around them.
